History

Stand together. Endure the storm.

In the valley of the Eurotas, Sparta built a lasting reputation around discipline, civic obligation and the close formation of its warriors. That reputation was only part of a complicated society, sustained by unequal labour and shaped by rivalry with other Greek states.

The image that endures is a line that holds because every shield has a neighbour. Dominion borrows that martial ideal for a campaign of deliberate commitment: build the resources behind the formation, give your troops a shared purpose, and stand where your allies need you.

An original historical introduction; the game roster is a fictional adaptation.

Playstyle & tutorial

Strengths

  • Homoioi combine substantial infantry attack with useful defensive values.
  • Spartan Riders offer strong defense at a high movement speed.
  • The Big Hospital provides a larger recovery share and storage than the standard Hospital.

Weaknesses

  • Several core units require a significant resource investment.
  • Homoioi move slowly compared with the faster infantry options elsewhere.
  • The Big Hospital requires advanced infrastructure and does not prevent losses.

Your first days

A suggested route, not a timed build order. Adjust to your resources, neighbours and alliance.

  1. Develop fields and storage before making expensive troop commitments. Keep the army sized to the village’s crop production.
  2. Build Main Building level 3 and Rally Point level 1 for the Barracks. Start with Spartan Hoplites and raise Barracks level 3 for the Academy.
  3. Research Agoge Warriors for an infantry-defense plan or the Perioikoi Scout to gather information. The scout trains as infantry on this server.
  4. Add cavalry once the Stable and economy can support it. Treat the Big Hospital as a later recovery investment after Main Building level 10 and Academy level 15.

When to attack

Choose a focused formation and scout the target. A unit with useful defense can still be expensive to lose in an unsuitable attack.

When to defend

Use the defensive roster and wall alongside coordinated reinforcement timing. Keep crop available for visiting troops and plan their return.

Working with an alliance

Become a reliable point in a shared defensive line. Later, recovery infrastructure can help replace part of eligible losses, but it should never be treated as guaranteed protection.

Special mechanics & buildings

Trade & expansion

Each merchant carries 500 resources and travels at 14 tiles/hour at 1×, before bonuses.

Resource fields and village buildings share the base construction queue.

A level 10 Cranny protects 1,000 of each resource before attack modifiers. Tribe multiplier: ×1.

Base loyalty reduction per surviving chief: 20–25, before morale and celebration modifiers. Founding requires 3 settlers, plus the usual expansion conditions.

Defensive Wall

Defensive Wall: 2.8% per level, compounded; +73.7% at level 20. This is the troop multiplier, not wall durability.

Big Hospital

Big Hospital can turn 50% of eligible losses into wounded troops, rounded down, up to 60 stored wounded per building level. Healing costs half the unit resources, rounded up.

Spartans and Vikings use the Big Hospital instead of the standard Hospital. Its recovery share and storage are larger; it still needs surviving infrastructure and resources to heal troops.
